WOW!  What a glorious day!   I love Easter! It’s my favorite holiday!  A celebration of life and hope!

 

YES! He is Alive!

         YES! He is Risen! Hallelujah!

                YES! He is Lord!

If it weren’t for Easter, there would be no need for Christmas. Jesus would be just some other prophet or teacher. But He lives!

 

Yes! He is Everything!

 

I have a song I want to share with you.  I promise that I won’t be putting music and songs for all my posts, but I can’t resist during this special and holy time. I’m a singer, I love to worship and praise our Risen Lord – just can’t help myself.  (Next week I’ll get back to my regular writing.)

 

The beautiful music and orchestration in the following song was written by Larry Walker, for a citywide Easter sunrise service here in Las Vegas.  The words are the Lord’s, given to me. Thank you Jesus! Lord, You Are!  Everything!

I Will Remember…

I WILL REMEMBER

This is a song I recorded last year, written by Joanna Carlson.  I share it with you because this is Holy week and I want to remember.  I want to be really mindful of what this time means to us as Believers. To take some time each day to reflect and to think, to pay attention.  

 

I started watching Christian movies this weekend, and am going to continue throughout this week. Now I realize that ‘movies’ aren’t the true scripture and they aren’t the perfect representation of God’s Word, far from it.  ONLY His Word is that. So of course, I will be reading the Word, the Bible, and asking God to show me what He has for me.

The thing is that movies help me, as a visual learner, to see the pictures of the events. Several have been really bad, and some of them really good. Sunday night I watched The Passion of the Christ. It broke my heart. It is so visual, makes it so real. It made me appreciate His sacrifice all the more.

 

It made me weep for my Savior, to think He chose to endure the ridicule, the pain, the suffering and rejection… for me and for you. He didn’t have to, He chose to. Not only that, but it showed the inhumanity of man toward each other. They laughed at Him, enjoyed causing Him pain, they wanted to kill Him.  Why as people do we do this to each other? Why do we bomb each other? Why do people go into schools and community centers and kill? Why do men kidnap and force young girls into sex trafficking? Our world is fallen. It is evil.

That why He came. To save us… from sin… from ourselves.

So this week I want to remember His pain, His sacrifice, and most of all His Love! Love so amazing, so divine, demands my soul, my heart, my all.

God’s NOT Dead…

Gods NOT Dead

How far would you go…to defend your belief in God?

While in Kansas City I had a few hours to fill while waiting for some friends and decided to go to a movie. I am so glad I did.  I left feeling uplifted and proud to be a Christian, and wanting to share this story… and His story.

 

SYNOPSIS:

Present-day college freshman and devout Christian, Josh Wheaton (Shane Harper), finds his faith challenged on his first day of Philosophy class by the dogmatic and argumentative Professor Radisson (Kevin Sorbo). Radisson begins class by informing students that they will need to disavow, in writing, the existence of God on that first day, or face a failing grade. As other students in the class begin scribbling the words “God Is Dead” on pieces of paper as instructed, Josh find himself at a crossroads, having to choose between his faith and his future. Josh offers a nervous refusal, provoking an irate reaction from his smug professor. Radisson assigns him a daunting task: if Josh will not admit that “God Is Dead,” he must prove God’s existence by presenting well-researched, intellectual arguments and evidence over the course of the semester, and engage Radisson in a head-to-head debate in front of the class.

That is a pretty daunting assignment.  He is tested, rejected, and alienated from his friends and family.  Wouldn’t it be easier to just write the words down… whether you mean it or not?

 

It’s a movie that makes you think.  What would I do? How can I make more of a difference?  How would I stand up to rejection? Could I make a case FOR Christ? 

Then there is a the challenge at the end…. if you believe it – sent it out… 

 

So my friends here it is

God’s NOT Dead!   

 

Hallelujah and Amen!  We are approaching the passion week, the death and Resurrection of Jesus – WOW!  God’s NOT Dead, He is alive, in our hearts, and changing the world!

 (OH, and I found it really interesting, at the end of the movie,  there is a list of court cases where Christians are trying to be treated equally, and where their ‘rights’ are being violated, similar to what is shown in this film. Ummm, freedom of religion to all groups… except Christians… but that is another blog for another day)

Want Truth – Read It

If you want to see a movie, a story about a man, a big boat, a Hollywood interpretation, and enjoyable entertainment, then go see NOAH. Here’s what the description says, 

Noah is a 2014 American epic biblical-inspired fantasy film directed by Darren Aronofskywritten by Aronofsky and Ari Handel, and loosely based on the story of Noah’s Ark.

 

They aren’t claiming it is a anything other than what it is – a “fantasy film”… “loosely based…”

 

For the Truth, the real story and happenings, read it in the Word – the Bible.  That’s where we find the story of Noah.  (Genesis 6:8 – 8:17).  This is what we can share with those who don’t know the Truth.

 

There’s a lot of talk about the movie.  My hope is that as it raises interest and questions, that it will draw people to the Truth and search for the real story of Noah.  My personal review, and only my opinion, is that this is a good movie.  Russell Crowe did a great job, as well as the other actors.   I’m not overly fond of some of the make up,  haircuts, and costumes (sorry but my brain thinks this way).  But overall a good show.  When ‘they’ say ‘Loosely based…”  that is exactly what it is, very loosely. 

 

Here are a  few little tidbIts to share.  

  • It is almost laughable how they interpret the ‘fallen angels’ and what the story surrounding them.  

  • In the movie Noah’s sons were young, and two were not married.  (Genesis 7:7:  And Noah and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives entered the ark to escape the waters of the flood.)

  • The people were evil for sure, no escaping that, and God, ‘The Creator’, was punishing mankind for all the evil.  

 

  • The ruling king in the time was pure evil, he distorted scripture, and many times said he was created in The Creator’s image, and therefore he (the king) was god.  His pride and arrogance was astounding. What catches you is that it isn’t subtle, it is in your face.  But then again, that is why God brought the flood.  The world was evil. Genesis 6:5  The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time

  • The coolest thing was how they presented the animals coming to the ark.  Very cool and made sense. They just came, the birds flocked to the ark in the same way that they know to migrate.  The other animals just came.  This was probably my favorite part.

 

It has a lot interesting twists, and certainly doesn’t follow scripture.  BUT for a movie it was good. Believers out there, let’s lighten up a little.  This is a movie, it’s Hollywood, and people are talking.  

 

Consider this.   It gets conversation going, makes people talk, and when they talk they may be looking for answers.  We have the opportunity to tell them the truth, point them in the right direction.  It gives us a chance to share, and I think that is a good thing.

It’s all in how we look at it.  If you want entertainment, a movie, then go see Noah.  If you want the real story- the Truth, read the Book =)  (Genesis 6:8 – 8:17)

Plenty of Nuttin’

Is there a difference between ‘plenty’, ‘enough’, and ‘abundance’? Remember the comment,  “We are owned by what we own”.  Do you agree?  Sometimes the more we own, the more pressure we feel, the more we hold on, and the harder we work to keep it.  It’s a state of mind . . . a state of being.

 

Trust me, I am not saying it’s bad or wrong to have or own a lot, I’m just sharing some thoughts about how we look at what we have… a little or a lot.  

 

In Philippians 4:11 –  12 Paul says… 

…for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.

Love It, Trash It, or Give It Away

In my continuing quest to ‘Release’, I am on a journey this week.  It started by cleaning out and organizing the garage. It has actually been kind of fun to go through the boxes and explore what is in them. I’ve continued in the house, getting rid of ‘stuff’. Trash it, give it away, (I’ve already been to ‘Goodwill’ four times), or in the case this week, take to someone.

 
When we left KC we gave the kids, Justin and Alicia, the opportunity to go through their boxes of ‘treasures’. We told them that they could keep ONE box of their favorite things, and then discard, in some way ,the rest.  

I recall Justin telling me that he had his box ready, and then added that he left a few other things in the garage as well.  Alicia did the same.  To Alicia’s credit, she really did have one box– a huge one (remember those big Cow boxes from Gateway, a computer company… that was hers). Justin, not so much.

Now here’s the funny part.  As Bill and I were going through every box, imagine our surprise… let’s just say, I have a car full of boxes that are being returned to KC, plus some other things that I am gifting them =)  I have a Yukon full PLUS a trailer.  I have also been ‘releasing’ things in the house as well, and have a box for my friend Vicki, and one for another friend, Bill and his wife, and I wouldn’t want to leave my Mother out, so I have about four boxes for her as well. Ho Ho Ho!

So I am ‘On the Road’ again.  I enjoy it, so it’s really not a big deal.  I am ‘Santa’ coming early as I deliver these ‘treasures’.  Out of my space… into theirs!

Releasing is a wonderful thing and I suggest you try it.  Not only is it clearing out space in the house and the garage, it is clearing my mind.

Many of you know that I have been in this process of ‘Releasing’.  Last year was my year of Release… and it is continuing, so now I call this my ‘season of Release’. (Thanks Lynn for showing me how much I needed to do this).

So here are a few things I am learning:

 

  • Release helps clear your mind

  • It can make you feel more free

  • We are ‘owned’ by what we own. This is truly profound.  The more we own and hold onto, the more we are held captive by the things.  Sometimes we are stuck.

  • Release can be mental and emotional as well.  Like releasing regrets or guilt. (This could be a whole post on it’s own)

  • Releasing others from what you think ‘they’ should do or how ‘they’ should think.   (Ummm, I think that is actually called control.)

 

 

Just like the space in your garage or your house when you get rid of ‘things’,  releasing can open up space in our heart and mind for the new things and gifts that God has for us – and this is the BIGGEST Blessing!

Basically, to reiterate, releasing is Freedom, and I love it.

Cabbage & Friends

For us, St. Patrick’s day is about meeting with our friends and having a good time.  Oh, and I love cabbage.  This was our fifth year of sharing this ‘holiday’ with our friends T & P.  We went bowling and then out to lunch.  It has been a while … maybe a year since we have gotten together. Between Bill’s travel schedule, illness in my friend’s family, and various other things, it just hasn’t worked out until now.  We had our favorite food, corn beef and cabbage (and I had double cabbage, which is my tradition).

It was wonderful! We started in just as if we had seen each other yesterday.  Isn’t that so cool?  I love the fact that friends of the heart are easy.  You can just be yourself, talk about ‘whatever’, good, bad, or normal stuff. 

It’s the getting together and just letting it happen that makes it special.  So T & P, I love you guys, you blessed our day, and I can’t wait ’til we are back in the ‘hood’ together.

 

You, too, have those special people.  If it’s been a while since you have seen them, maybe now is a good time to reach out and make a connection.  Sometimes it’s a phone call, or get together for coffee (or other beverage).  It is truly the relationships in our lives that bring us joy and give our lives meaning.  

When scriptures says “… lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven….”  (Matthew 6:20), I think part of that is the relationships that we cultivate.  These are our treasures.

If you are in a season where you feel alone and don’t have close relationships, then maybe begin to reach out,open your heart and pray that God will bring someone special to your life.  When your heart is open, it is amazing what God will do.
