Last week I had the pleasure of meeting with a friend from church. We share in ministry together and see each other only on Sundays. In the last couple of years that we’ve been going to church together, we haven’t ever taken the time to really get to know each other. Do you know what I mean?
She works with the kids at church, has a very busy life with her husband, who travels a lot, has two great boys, and has a very influential and demanding job. She does so many great things, is caring, and really does a lot of behind the scenes work in our congregation. Our Sunday mornings are a friendly ‘hello’, and the quick , ‘how are you’ or it’s good to see you’, with usually no time for anything else. Are you with me?
So we decided to meet, have a coffee, and just visit. We did have a few church things to discuss but we also had time to begin to know each other a little better. It really was nice.
How about you? Is there someone you would like to get to know better? It seems to never happen until we make a decision to make it happen. She and I chose a time, and it was actually a couple weeks before we found a convenient time for both of us. The point is, we did it. It was a blessing.
Things usually don’t just happen, we have to reach out, and take a step to go beyond our ordinary days.
So do it. Make a new friend, re-connect with someone you haven’t talked to in a while, or have coffee or a coke with someone you want to know better. You’ll be glad you did.
‘Til next time -
