Go for the Overflow . . .

So often we say I want … to lose weight, get a new job, go on a cruise, take a family vacation, etc.  The problem is we talk and talk about it but never really do anything.

A friend of mine wanted to take a family vacation but it wasn’t in the family budget, so she made a definite plan to reach her goal. First she checked the info and found out how much it would cost to take the family on their dream vacation; the hotel, the theme park, food, etc.  Once she had that amount, in this case I think it was $3000.  She sat down with her family and they made a plan.  They all wanted to help.  Any extra jobs they took, babysitting, odd jobs, an extra hours that Mom or Dad worked went directly into the special bank account for the trip.  They had a big jar and would put money in until it was filled and then took to the bank to deposit in their Special’ account. Pretty great idea isn’t it.  They all helped.

Now here is a big part of this too.  They made it visual by making a big thermometer poster and kept it right in the kitchen for all to see.  Each time they put money in the account, they colored in the poster.  Imagine their excitement  when they reached the top! Actually went over – WOW! It was a success,  and they were able to go sooner than they thought.

Think on these things… the answers will give you that definite goal that you need.

  • What are you talking about?

  • What is it that you want?

  • What will it take?

  • What are some steps you can take?

  • Who do you need to talk to?

  • When is your goal date?

Projects are Fun

I love having a project.  How about you?  It can mean planting a garden, sewing, taking pictures, painting the house, or maybe painting a picture. Although painting a picture would never be mine as that is NOT my gift by any stretch of the imagination. I find that having a project keeps me excited and focused on something new. It can add color to our lives.
Bill and I are doing a type of project together, eating better.  I know that may not sound like a ‘project’, but I don’t like diets. We are doing a variation of SugarBusters.  If you are familiar with it, it is low carbs, and the carbs we eat are complex carbs.  So we are making new eating choices.  I have grown to love cauliflower – I steam and mash it, add a little butter, salt and pepper. It is like eating mashed potatoes =).  Cabbage, zucchini on the grill, asparagus, salads of course, are all part of our favorites list.
Now I have to say that it really is UNFAIR that men have such an advantage. Bill has lost 12 pounds and a few inches off his wait. Moi, not so much, actually very little.  However, we do feel better and the point is better health.  But GOSH – I’d like the 12 pound loss!
I have a couple other projects I am working on and I will share those with you soon.

Both feet in the water…

Let me ask you a question.  When you are taking a step toward your passion, or your dream, do you sometimes get side-tracked? As I was thinking about this I remembered a blog I wrote a couple years ago, so I am refreshing it.

“Both Feet in the Water …

Being raised as an ‘air force brat’, a child of an officer, a girl in the south, being the older sister, and the daughter of an alcoholic, has had a major impact on my life.  I tend to put others first, take care of others, and basically put my needs, desires, and goals behind everyone else’s. Whether that was consciously or not—it really has been the truth, and has been my reality.  I am sure many of you women out there are shaking your heads… you know exactly what I mean. Now I am not saying it is bad to put others first, matter of fact that is a good thing. Just follow my thoughts here.

Many times as I would start taking a step toward my passion, I’d get one foot in the water, so to speak, and then, almost get the second foot in and ‘Voila’, someone needed me for something… my kids, husband, someone or something at church…  my Mother, other family… whoever.

Really, it didn’t matter who or what… they would always take precedence over my plan, or my goal.  Have ya’ll ever felt that way? Do you have desires, goals, or a calling that just never seems to happen… you never seem to have time, etc, to act on ‘IT’?  I would imagine that you do, matter of fact I’d bet on it.  (I am in Las Vegas after all).

Let me first say, it has taken a little time and some work to realize this, but now that I am aware of this tendency… things are changing.

Here’s the real issue, at least for me.  I truly believe the calling that I feel, this fire and passion within me… is God’s calling.  It is to serve Him by sharing with others, through the gifts He has given me, His love and joy, and to encourage others.

So when I put all these ‘other’ things first, I am really putting them in front of HIM. YIKES! That hurts my heart!  It really changes everything… it’s one thing to put others before my ‘selfish’ desires, but to put them in front of Him is like saying… OK Lord… wait just a sec, I gotta take care of this. Opps, sorry Lord, don’t have time for You… I gotta take care of  ‘whatever’.

This is so wrong.  I don’t want to do that anymore!  I’m praying that He will show me each time I begin to do that, to make a decision for someone or something else instead of Him.

Does that change how you look at the desire or the call, that you feel in your heart?

God has planted those desires INSIDE of you—When scripture says He will give you the desires of your heart—Well, HE is the one who puts them there, so He will bring it to pass. We just can’t put Him behind everyone and everything else.

It is time to put BOTH feel in the water… not just sticking our toes in and out, but KEEP them there, moving forward step by step and day by day.”

When to Finish . . .

It is Monday morning and as I sit here trying to decide which of my three projects to work on today, it seemed like a good time to share a little priority management, or maybe I should call it ‘Delinda self management’.

I have three big projects that I need to handle, take care of…Do.  My nature is to do the things I like to do first, and put off the others.  Unfortunately, the ‘others’ then begin to ‘grow’ in my head until they feel totally overwhelming.  Do you ever feel that way?  That’s when I take a look at them and begin to break it down and decide when to start, but more importantly, when to finish.

  1. Organize the garage so I can move everything out of the local storage area and into it. Since I need to get the Christmas decorations out of storage anyway, it seems like a good time to do it AND they raised the rent on the storage by 25%… yikes! Yep, it looks like more releasing, because I know it is not all going to fit.

  2. Edit videos from a couple of the Fun Fearless Female events and post on website (This is my favorite one to do, even though I am just learning how to do it, and it takes a while. Actually it takes hours on the computer and a lot of focus, but I like it and the results).

  3. Begin preparing for the Nevada Real Estate course and test.  (I am having to do some major mental adjustments for this one.)  Many of you know I have been a Broker in Kansas for some 35 years, and it is time to get licensed here in Nevada. In our family I am the ‘test taker’ for our management company. Bill runs the company and it must be licensed in each state where we do business, so it is important to do. However, my mind has to do the mental shift from ‘book learning and test-taking’, to creative and fun.  Like many things it was easier in my 30s than it is now.  Can anyone out there relate???

All of this to say, we when look at the choices of things to do and accomplish, it helps to put a time frame around it.  Sometimes we may have to shift or extend the time-frame, but we come closer to getting the job done if we do.  For example, the ‘storage area’, the rent goes up December 1st, so I can choose to pay the new amount for a month or two, or I can choose to get it done by end of November.

Some of the video footage I have has been in my computer for a year… I know, pretty bad huh?  The new footage from the Las Vegas Event is fresh and inspires me to get it posted by the end of this week. The Nevada Law class and the RE test… I’m giving it until the end of the year.

For me, setting those time frames helps me focus, adjust my daily schedule, and feel like I am making progress.

So today, I am going to spend 1-2 hours in the garage, shifting, moving, eliminating, etc. during the day hours when it is nice outside, work a few hours on the videos in the later afternoon and evening, and the RE…. maybe tomorrow.  Ha, Ha,Ha! OK, so tomorrow I’ll get up and spend the morning, 3-4 hours on the RE law class.

Go out and make it a great day!
