5, 4, 3, 2, 1 Top Reasons

I hope you had a Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving.
As I continue on my list of things for which I am grateful, and as we move right on into the Christmas season these are even more evident.

5   Friends – WOW – I am so blessed to have strong, loving, Christian friends all over the country.  That is one of the benefits of moving a lot. So to each of you thank you for how you bless my life.
church friends
4  Church – We have a great church family. They show love and grace to me, our family, and our community.  If you do not have a local church family, I encourage you to go and visit some churches. I pray that you will find that place of love and acceptance, a place where you are encouraged, loved, and where you can share your gifts and talents with others.  That is the ultimate blessing – to find a place of service.  When you serve others and share your gifts, you will always be the one who is most blessed by the doing. (If you live locally in Las Vegas, I invite you to join us, Grace Presbyterian Church at one of our locations).

2  Bill – Yes, of course he is family, BUT  he deserves his own spot.  He is my husband, friend, provider, protector, and love of my life.  He is totally unselfish, gives of himself, and he always puts me first in his life.  As a matter of fact, he is the most unselfish person I have ever met.  God blessed me beyond measure when He brought Bill and I together.

And the really Good News is that He loves YOU too.  We are all His children and He loves us beyond measure.  God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life!  (John 3:16)

Back to school. New Beginnings.  Don’t you love it.  Clean slate.  Start Over.  Begin again.  That is what Back to School has always signified for me. It also meant new clothes, school supplies (and I still love Office suppliers), and New shoes (Yippee).

Oh yes, then of course, time for the basics… including MATH!

Here is a little Video, about 1 minute,  in honor of teachers, and students, and Learning– Thank you to Julie Garro for sharing.

Parenting – A Roller Coaster

roller coaster

We are getting ready to head out-of-town for our son’s wedding.  It is an exciting time.    This is my first experience at this and I have been surprised at my thoughts over the last week or so.

You know those commercials, “A baby changes everything”? I really like them and they are so true.  All the sudden life changes, it is no longer about us, it’s about them.  A child is so dependent upon us, for everything.  Our lives take on new meaning and certainly a different perspective.  Our words and our actions matter.  It becomes the biggest roller coaster adventure of all, full of ups and downs, and highs and lows.  I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

As we teach our children, we learn ourselves.

  • Gratitude – live a life of gratitude
  • There is a difference between right and wrong
  • Life is full of choices – Choose wisely
  • Choices have consequences – Think before you act
  • Live what you believe
  • Forgive yourself and forgive others – No one is perfect
  • Do unto others as you would have them do unto you
  • Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and all your mind, and love your neighbor as yourself.
  • Open your heart to the many blessings that are in your path
  • Pray

Have a wonderful weekend.

Blessings!

They just don’t get it – Yet

delinda_pink3

They just don’t get it, our kids that is, Yet. Parenting is the hardest and most rewarding job out there.  Yes, we are sometimes considered mean, cruel, we don’t understand, too strict, unfair, etc.  Does this sound familiar parents?  As our kids are growing up they often think we are their enemy, out to make their life hard, so to speak.  Of course we know we love them, are trying to protect them, to teach them, and give them real family values.

Over the last year I have had a few of the great moments that we wait for as parents.  I was just in Kansas City with my son and his future bride.  We had a great visit.  He and I had a couple of wonderful dinners just talking and visiting about normal stuff.   In one of our general conversations he gave me one of those moments.  His bride to be has a sweet young daughter, (my future granddaughter- yippee), and they both have agreed that they  aren’t going to have cable TV in order to protect her from some of the choices that they feel are inappropriate.  Whoo hoo!

Why is that a big deal?  When my son and daughter were young I monitored their TV and movie watching, including ‘no’ GI Joe.  In his mind for a number of years that was just over-protective, and ‘dumb’.  Of course in my opinion, as Mom,  it was way too violent and yes, inappropriate for a young child.  Now he is monitoring and watching out for his soon to be step-daughter. Cool.

Just a week or two ago for Mother’s day, I sent him the ‘reverse’ Mother’s Day that i told you about.  It was a card to him, with me singing, and expressing my joy at being his Mom.  He opened it and sent me a note to thank me.  Then not too long after, he sent a second note saying, it reminded him of when I used to sing to him when I tucked him in at night. Ahhh!  That was so sweet.  They do pay attention and they remember.

So HANG IN THERE parents =). Many times it is hard to be strong and hold your ground.  You may be the only parents on the block that don’t allow drinking in your home, or the only ones who only allow other kids over when you are there, and you may the only one who won’t let them watch ‘GI Joe’, etc.   It will be worth it.

It comes around, and it is sweet to watch them grow up and make those mental shifts when ‘we’ are not the bad guys any  more.  Isn’t it funny how smart we are becoming.  Don’t you love it?

Blessings
