This is Thanksgiving week.  There will be celebrations all over the country, lots of meals shared, stories told, and lots of laughter.  This is a time of reflection and many of us make lists.  Here is my partial gratitude list.

I am thankful for

  • You , my readers of the blog,  supporters, and encouragers, thanks for staying with me.

  • My great hubby, Bill

  • My kids, Alicia, Justin and my sweet daughter in law, Emily, and granddaughter Caitri

  • My Mother and sister, and her son, Brighton

  • My brother Greg, his wife Paula, and the whole family

  • All my cousins all around the country, many I have seen in the last few months, and those I haven’t seen in years.

  • Wonderful friends at church, too many to list, but you all know who you are – I’m sending hugs your way.

  • Pastors at our church who lead us and share God’s Word

  • Friends in KC, again, I can’t make a total list, but know how much I value our friendship

  • Friends of the heart, that we can go months without seeing each other, and still pick up the conversation as if it was yesterday

  • I am thankful for Freedom, living in a country where we can worship freely and openly.

Most of all I am thankful to be a child of God, daughter of the King, and joint heir with Christ.  (Romans 8:17)

Thank you Lord for saving my soul,

Thank You Lord for making me whole

Thank You Lord for giving to me,

Thy great salvation so rich and free

Turning 40 . . .

Not me, I hit that a ….few… years ago.

I’ve been in Kansas City this week and had a wonderful ‘musical’ meeting with a great friend.  She will be turning 40 soon and she is making a list of fun and different things to do for her birthday.  She has this wonderful idea. (as a matter of fact I may do it for one of my next birthdays… but probably not to match the number … it is too large and I’m not sure I have enough family to do it, so I may have to abbreviate it.)

Here it is:

She is going to make a list of 40  people that she is grateful for in her life and send them a thank you note. This includes family, past teachers, mentors, etc., that have had an impact or positive influence in her life.  Isn’t that soooo cool!  I love it. Giving to others for her birthday.

I have some time before my birthday so I may start and see how many I can list.  The first 20 or so will be easy.  The other thing, I’m not sure how to find some of the past people who I’d like to thank.  My friend says she is a master on finding people, so I may ask her to help me – of course I do need to remember their name.  (One is an English teacher in High school, it was his first year teaching.  I can remember what he said that made a difference to me, but I can’t remember his name… and those of you who know me well are probably not surprised!)

How about you?  Can you think of people who have made a difference to you in your life, someone you’d like to reach out through the years and thank?

I love this idea! I am helping her think of ’40’ things to do to celebrate her birthday, got any ideas to share?

Oh, and next time I’ll share my philosophy of 40.  If you are turning 40 – Do a Happy Dance, because it is a powerful!  It made my friend smile =)

Many Blessings! ‘Til Next Time –

Question:  Do you have an idea for a Fun or different thing to do to celebrate turning 40?

Share the Stories

My husband Bill and I came down to the Phoenix area to Spring Training for the Royals (YEA ROYALS… I’ll tell you about the trip later, it was really Fun).

We were out to dinner, feeling relaxed, and in no hurry, and we began talking about the miracles in our lives.  There have been so many times when we thought we were at the end, or in too deep, or on the edge, and God surprised us. The more we talked and remembered the more miracles we could name.  Do you know what I mean?

We had a wonderful time just going back in time and looking at the many times we have seen God moving.  I think it’s important to remember and be thankful, to actually name the moments, and realize how amazing they were.  How amazing God is!

We began making our list and decided we need to go a step further and write them down, then share them with our kids. The Bible talks about writing down our stories of faith and sharing them with our children so they will see how God works in our lives. That’s what we are going to do.

Let me share one with you, the birth of our daughter. Every birth is a miracle, wouldn’t you agree?  The beauty and incredible moments when a child is born makes us stand in awe.  I had toxemia and the doctor told us that at some point our baby would be better ‘out’ of me and in the world, than inside of me. Well, that day came, and she was born five weeks early.

There were many things that could have gone wrong, etc., but here she was a beautiful, healthy, and very tiny, baby girl, 4 lbs 4 oz. Bill could literally hold her in his hands. She was our miracle.  She and I both had to stay in the hospital for … about 10 days… but we went home together, which was another miracle!

So I’m beginning my list, some are big miracles like Alicia’s birth and some are small, but all God’s blessings.

What about you?  Have you taken some time to think and remember times when God has moved in your life? What are the times when God has blessed you with a miracle, something that just couldn’t be coincidence.

It’s fun and so worthwhile to think about.

  • Remember the miracles

  • Name them

  • Be grateful

  • Praise our Father who gives us all good things

  • Share your stories of God moving in your life with your family and friends.

I’d love to hear one of your stories.
