Seeking out Smiles

imgres-1

Smiles make you feel good, right?  But did you know they also can help relieve stress and can calm you?
I found this article in For Women First magazine and wanted to share with you.  Shop owners in Japan found that  by placing ‘Smiley faces’ on everything,(dishes, detergent, racks, even veggies) it made people relax and stay in the store longer.  Pretty cool, huh?
Then in a study at Boston University they discovered that looking at upbeat messages and images produces alpha brain waves which trigger feelings of happy relaxation.
So when we Moms put a smiley face or happy message in our child’s lunch box, or send a note with a smile and positive greeting it really does make a difference.
Gosh, and we just thought it felt good. So there you go– Now there is research to prove it.

Share some smiles and happy thoughts as you go through your day… you will feel better and so will those around.
Have a great weekend.  =)  BTW – I’m Smiling at You!
 ‘Til next time.

BLESSINGS!

Air Force Brat

B52.climbout.arp

Being an ‘Air Force Brat’, as we are ‘loving’ called, wasn’t easy. Moving around the country made for challenges to a family, but it also had some life lessons and a lot of choices.

Of course, you don’t realize it when you’re a kid, but as an adult I can see a little more clearly. (Don’t you love 20/20 vision)

It is interesting that there is always more than one way to look at things . . . the optimistic and positive side . . . or the ‘not so much’.

Choices.

1. Friends

A- Don’t make friends because you’re going to leave anyway

B- Make friends quickly so you can enjoy them

2. Speak up

A- Speak up and be the one to say hello or smile first

B- Wait for others to speak to you (this can take a really long time)

3. Decorate a house. My Mother always made every place we lived really feel like home.  She had  choices as well

A- We’re only here temporarily so what difference does it make?

B- Every place is important so let’s decorate and make it feel like home

4. Should we make connections, join a church, etc.?

A- We’re not here long enough to get involved

B- If we get involved and connected our experience will be richer.  God can use us here even if it is only for a short time.

5. Pets

A- Pets are too much trouble

B- Pets are part of a family and help make the move easier

6. Attitude

A- Be rigid and fight the process

B- Go with the flow and embrace the change

As I look at these, it occurs to me that in many area of our lives we have these same options.  How we look at an event or a challenge, and the choices we make in how to handle it, makes all the difference.

To me it is so much easier to be flexible and go with the flow rather than fighting it.

Maybe it is about asking questions.

  1. How can I look at this differently?

  2. What are my options?

  3. What choices do I have?

Sometimes just asking ourselves a different question helps us to see that we have choices, and then enables us to have different answers. What do  you think?

TALK to me – I’d love to hear from you!

Thanks to Vets

th

THANKS to all who have served and are serving now.  Thanks to the families that were without their child, their mom or dad, sister or brother.

Thanks to my Dad, Col. Lee Layne, USAF, and to my husband Bill Larson, who served in the Army. Thanks to my Aunt Mary and Aunt Helen who were in the Army (and possibly a couple of uncles, but I’m not sure).
Yes, my Dad was in the Air Force.  I saw his dedication, his sacrifice, and love for this country.  He’s what they call a ‘Lifer’.  I learned a lot of life lessons through his service. Ummm, maybe I’ll write about it.  In the meantime, today is a day for remembering and saying thanks.

Thanks to my friends and church family that have served our country.  Thanks to Ron, Ken, Bill F., Bob H, Mark, Fred B., and others that I may not have seen stand up on Sunday- please know I thank you as well.
Thanks to my youth mentors and teachers, to ‘Pop’  Mitch Hargett, my junior high choir leader, who changed my life.  Thanks to my sunday school teacher, Miss Wallace, whose husband served at Offutt Air Force Base.  Matter of fact, almost every teacher, church family, and friend through my junior and high school years were in the service or their loved one was on active duty.
Thank you to all of those who are currently serving and away from their families now – Today.  Thank you!

TALK to me – I’d love to hear from you!

Light…

51iPTIVTegL._AA160_We’ve talked numerous times about how God has something special for each of us. How He has planted desires in your heart, and wants to bring them to fruition.  Often, we tend to put activity and being busy in the way of these desires.  Let’s Stop – Listen – and pay attention. God just may be lighting your path with a wonderful surprise. From my friend Julie Garro.
THE STORY BEHIND FOLLOW THE LIGHT
The teal blue light of the alarm clock glared at me. It was third morning in a row I was up at 4:00 a.m.with a head full of busy thoughts. Frustrated, I got up and went to my computer to catch up on Facebook and email. That filled one morning. But I continued to wake up just as early. Finally, I decided to write down what was on my mind – maybe then I could get some sleep. So I began to type. Disconnected thoughts began to fill pages.
After a few weeks I realized those disconnected thoughts weren’t so disconnected after all. There was a theme, and several Scripture references came to mind. I sensed God was working on me, and the pages I had typed had a meaning. I went to visit my Pastor. He didn’t tell me what to do or guide what was happening. He just said, “First, just write – every day. Second, enjoy the ride.”
It was more than a ride. It was a spiritual adventure. For several months, I spent time – hours – with my Lord before my family got up. Each day was a different journey as God showed me something I hadn’t noticed before, about Himself, and the Scriptures. Some mornings I could not keep up with what God was telling me. I was typing so fast, I was afraid I was missing what He was telling me. Most mornings I was sorry I had to end our time together and go to work.
I spent more than a year enjoying those precious early morning hours with my Lord as I typed Follow the Light, a record of this marvelous journey with God. My prayer is that through this study, you will see that our great Creator wants to do special and amazing things in your life too.

November.  As we begin the holiday season, Thanksgiving and Christmas, it is a time of thankfulness, a time of reflection, and a time of looking for Jesus, the Messiah.

We live in a world in chaos, conflict, and confusion.  We need peace.  Jesus is the Prince of Peace and He brings peace to our hearts and our lives.  It is only His peace that can bring peace to our world… one heart, one person at a time.

My prayer is that the peace of Christ will spread across our world

. . . and let it begin in me.
