Change-Yikes!

“Being a woman of God in a crazy demanding world”

Change is all around us, we feel overwhelmed.  Sometimes we feel like it’s just too much.  Does that sound familiar?  Join the crowd.  This an ongoing issue with many of us.  Life is full of changes.  Jobs, finances, our kids, moving, and I’m sure you can name a few more.  I’ve found there is a way to make it easier.

In the last two years, we have had a serious medical problem  in the family, had to close our company, actually two, start another job, moved, and the many financial issues that went along with all those I just mentioned.  So what to do?

  • As a Christian we know to pray.  Most of the time we do.  Pray and give our frustrations to the Lord, ask for His guidance each day, and as we handle each item.  He is the only One who knows what is ahead.  Only He knows what is best for us.  So often when we pray, we give it to Him and then a few minutes, hours, or sometime later, we take it back again.  I guess we unconsciously think we’d better ‘help’, or we feel we can handle it.  The truth is we need to leave it at the cross, and not obsess about it.

How we handle the day-to-day thoughts, our attitude toward the change, is important and will also help us through it.

Basically, I see two choices,

  • Resist or
  • Go with the flow

First choice, resist the change. Trust me, to resist is harder.  You feel like you are up against a wall,  isolated, and  frustrated.  It is easy to begin the thoughts of  ‘why’, which is not a good question, because we are just not going to have the answer.  When we resist, we are in a state of fighting.  We also tend to be negative, whine and complain, which leaves us more isolated, as nobody wants to be around us.  Not only that, the times when I have tried to resist, to fight the change, it has only prolonged it, and it definitely took longer to learn the lessons.

The second choice is  ‘go with the flow’, and although it may sound a little crazy or unrealistic,  it is actually easier.  Not so simple, but easier. There are always going to be things that happen, and if we will be open to the change, open to the possibility that God can have something good at the other side, it is easier. Believe that there is more going on, and that God has things under control. (You did pray about it remember, and left Him in charge.)  We don’t have to understand it at the moment, but allow God to use us during this time, and be willing to learn the lessons.

I have found that with each phone call, with each item on my list of things to do, just doing them with an attitude of faith, and not blame or frustration,  made it was easier.  Matter of fact I had one of ‘those’ calls this morning, and to the lady on the other end, I told her it was her lucky day.  She was a little surprised, laughed and asked what I meant.  I told her I take one call a week and it was her lucky day.  I repeated the same scenario that I have told this company for months, because that is what you have to do.  She listened, said she would mark it in the notes, and try to keep them from calling back for a while.  I thanked her and hung up.  Now for me that is much easier than getting mad, being angry at the person on the end, etc.  It didn’t really change anything but I felt better and actually I think she did too.

Our attitude really does determine how we feel and I think also determines the result and the length of the issues with which we are dealing.  We may not be able to change the things that happen but we can determine our attitude and how we handle it.

There are good days and some not so good, give yourself a break, and just take it one day at a time.  Pray, ask the Lord for discernment and guidance. Embrace the change and see what blessings that God has in store for you.

What about you? Have you found something that helps you?  Do you have a story to share?  Let me know and I’ll be looking forward to hearing your story.  Please leave a ‘Comment’ or feel free to ‘Share’.
