It’s Not just ‘Chew and Spit’

KC_World series

WOW! what a season!

Last year I began watching the ROYALS, again. Back in the 80’s we were living in Kansas City area. Our kids were just babies, Bill was building the company, and the Royals were winning!  It was an exciting time!  George Brett was the ‘Man’.

Last year, I started watching them as they won the Wild Card and it felt like I had gone back in time, made me feel 20 or so, years younger.  Crazy!

This year, since Bill does work in KC and our kids live there, we have been able to go back and forth and have been to many of the KC games! FUN FUN FUN!

It has been amazing.  As I’ve watched, I’ve realized that part of what I enjoy so much is watching them play as a ‘Team’.  I know, of course they are a team, but this is different.  They are tight, they know how each other responds, they have each other’s back.  Really, it may better be called a Baseball family.  I think they love each other and support each other, and it shows!  The George Brett days were wonderful, but this is a whole new level.  It isn’t about one person, it is about all of them.  They all play and contribute, and they do it great! The Royals have character, heart, and they love the game!

Here are a few things I’ve noticed.

Baseball and life lessons (and it’s not just ‘chew and spit’ …. LOL)

Life is like a Ballgame

royals2 Nat’l Anthem sung by American Idol winner- David Cook from KC area

Many of you know from FB that Bill and I were at the final game of the playoffs for the Royals.  It was exciting to see it happen, to be part of the thrill and be there LIVE!  Yes, the KC Royals are going to the World Series!!! Whoo Hoo!  I feel 25 years younger as it has stirred all these exciting feelings of the early 80s.  Bill and I lived in KC, the kids were just toddlers, the Royals and George Brett were the THING!

Overall I am not a big sports fan, (just for the Royals =), but I think there are life lessons that we can compare with sports.

I think life is a constant, day in and day out series of choices, to be positive or negative.  ‘Life’ is going to throw curve balls, fast balls, you are going to get a few walks and sometimes the ball is going to hit you.  You will have times when you are going to knock them out of the park, bunt, and sometimes feel like you strike out. Right?  My question to you is this, are you going to keep stepping up to the plate?  Are you going to live life with the expectancy of getting that Home Run or are you just going to choose to stay on the bench?

We do have choices, and over the next several weeks I am going to be talking about how to live life in a Positive space, no matter what. We all have ‘stuff’ . . . but it is what you do with the ‘stuff’ that matters.  Your attitude, your frame of mind, your choice.

  • ‘Not half Bad…”  have you heard that saying?  So I guess if something is ‘Not half bad…it must be half good, right?

  • Is your glass half empty, or half full?

  • Is life full of hope and promise, or is it just existence?

  • Are you walking in faith and hope or in defeat?

  • Is the world out to get you, or are you going for it all?

Let’s chat.

God and Baseball – Ummmm

Baseball and Bat

Last night I watched the last inning of the baseball game with Bill, (it was the 13th inning by the way).  It reminded me of our earlier years when we lived in Kansas City.  The years of George Brett and wonderful Royals baseball.  As a matter of fact our family was at one of those extended games in KC, when the Royals played 19 innings.  It  was exciting.

On a different note, our church just completed a merger and we are doing a series on Sunday mornings about Grace, which is the name of our new church.

The following story brings these two things together. Who would’ve thought – God and Baseball.  Thanks Julie Garro for sharing this story..

God’s Baseball Team

Bob and the Lord stood by to observe a baseball game. The Lord’s team was playing Satan’s team. The Lord’s team was at bat the score was tied zero to zero, and it was the bottom of the ninth inning with two outs. They continued to watch as a batter stepped up to the plate whose name was Love. Love swung at the first pitch and hit a single, because Love never fails. The next batter was named Faith, who also got a single because Faith works with Love. The next batter up was named Godly Wisdom. Satan wound up and threw the first pitch. Godly wisdom looked it over and let it pass. Ball one! Three more pitches and Godly Wisdom walked, because Godly Wisdom never swings at what Satan throws.

The bases are loaded. The Lord then turns to Bob and told him He was now going to bring in His star player. Up to bat stepped Grace. Bob said “he sure doesn’t look like much!” Satan’s whole team relaxed when they saw Grace. Thinking he had won the game, Satan wound up and fired his first pitch. To the shock of everyone, Grace hit the ball harder than anyone had ever seen. But Satan was not worried; his center fielder let very few get by. He went up for the ball, but it went right through his glove, hit him on the head and sent him crashing to the ground. Then it continued over the fence for a home run!

The Lord’s team won!

The Lord then asked Bob if he knew why Love, Faith, and Godly Wisdom could get on base, but could not win the game.

Bob answered that he did not know why.

The Lord explained, “If your love, faith and wisdom had won the game, you would think you had done it by yourself. Love, Faith, and Wisdom will get you on base, but only MY Grace can get you home. “MY Grace is the only thing Satan cannot steal.”
