Last week I was on jury duty. Now maybe like some of you, when I got the card I thought…. Oh No, how ‘Inconvenient’. It was on a day I was flying out of town. There was the option to ask for a different date, which I did, and they gave me an alternate date . . . for last week.
.
When I went in on Monday I had no idea that I would be there all week, or that it would take 3 days JUST to pick the jury, nor did I expect to actually BE on the jury. We finished at 7:30 ish – Friday night, with a verdict. It was emotional, hard, heart-wrenching, serious, and rewarding.
.
As we all were sitting in the courtroom the judge began by talking about the privilege to sit on a jury, to be part of the process, and what makes our country great. We stood and said the Pledge of Allegiance… (I really can’t remember the last time I’ve actually said it.) Then he read to us the Preamble… drawing our attention to the fact that the first thing on the list is establish justice. It is good to remember, keep it in mind, and be proud.

Here it is in case you haven’t read it for a while:
.
It was a great experience going through the whole process, from start to finish. I’ll tell you more later.
