I am honored to speak at my church this week, God has reminded me of Phil 4:11-12, where Paul says, “I have learned to be content…”.
Maybe it has to do with moving and all the changes that are going on in my life, but this verse has really come to life. Are we living content with who we are, where we are, what we have? Or are we complaining and missing the blessings of each day? As I look around and listen to others, I’ve noticed that it is often easy to ‘wish away’ our time.
Have you or someone you know ever said something like:

When I get married then my life will be full and I’ll …..
-
When the kids get grown I ‘ll have time to ….
-
When I get a new job I’ll ….
-
When I get my degree then …..
-
When I finish this project then …
Don’t get me wrong, I am all about having goals and dreams. It’s a fine line between working toward a goal or being ‘Discontent’. We can spend a lot of time being ‘Discontent’ and not seeing the blessings that we have Now. It’s important to be grateful to acknowledge the blessings. I believe that as we choose to be grateful and express our gratitude, God opens up more blessings and the goals and dreams we have will take flight.
Philippians 4:11-12
…for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.

Next time – Being content doesn’t mean giving up or settling.
