Life is full of change – as a matter of fact, I think life IS change or it should be! The question is, how do you react when something changes? Do you get ruffled, upset, angry? Do you go down the road of It’s Not Fair? Or do you flex, take a deep breath and go with it? Often we think change is a bad thing… but it doesn’t have to be. Take a look at the picture above. I think it depends on how quickly you can move from the denial and frustration to exploration and acceptance.  The more you lean into the change the faster you get through the process.

What I see happening is that some people get to the bottom end, the depression and the It’s not fair place and hang out there.  Some people stay there . . . for years!  Not a good place to live! The truth is, you can even bypass the bottom end of the loop and go from frustration directly to exploration, What can I do about this? or What is a another way?

 .

If you think about it, almost every important thing in your life happened because something changed. Many of the changes we are excited about . . . getting married, having a baby, a new job, graduation, etc. Of course there are the other kinds of change, i.e. loss of job, or relationship, an unexpected move. Most all change can benefit us in some way, if we let it. It’s how we choose to think about it. I’m not saying it is easy or that we have to like it while it is happening, but it can be a learning experience or a time for growth. We can’t see it when we are in the middle of it, but our hindsight can show us the lessons.

Change

• in our finances may be what shows us how to be better stewards

• in where we live can open us up to new and beautiful relationships

• in a job situation may be just the thing to push you into the career you’ve always wanted but were afraid to try

• can get you out of the rut and into a new experience

 .

There are the big life changes, but there are also the day-to-day changes, and if you look at them, your process is the same.. just quicker.  For example, did your vacation get changed, or a meeting time and place?  Someone cancelled on you. How did you react, get all mad and angry or go with the flow and regroup?  There may be a time for both, but how we react in the small changes just might be an indication of how we respond to the big ones. Just saying.

I’ve learned to love change (I’ve moved 27 times, been up and down the financial ladder, had an intervention with a child, had 5 surgeries, +++)!  I can tell you that when you go with it, not fight or resist it, and look for other options – it can become so much easier!  It may even take a few big deep breaths, but you never know what may lie ahead.
