JOSH GROBAN in Kansas City! The whole concert was great – a wonderful experience!

This was not my first time to see Josh Groban. He was great 10 years ago in Denver, but I have to say that Tuesday night he was even better. There have been changes, all good, growing and developing as an artist. (It would be pretty sad if he… or any of us.. were the same as we were 10 years ago!)

What I really noticed was a generosity of spirit. Many performers, particularly those who are the ‘Big Stars’ make it all about them (and of course you are paying your ticket money to see them) but follow me here. Josh gave several performers a time to shine. First there was an opening singer, Foy Vance – watch for him… He was excellent.

He was followed by Sarah McLachlan . . . OM Gosh she was amazing. She played piano and guitar, no back up band, more of an acoustical performance. I’ve always liked her but I fell in love with her – her style, abilities, musical talent, and sense of humor.

Next came Josh. He did a whole series of songs from Broadway shows, a few classical pieces, played piano and drums… and was great! He shared stories and interesting tidbits about himself and about his journey. He also highlighted a great trumpet player from the area that was really awesome, featured an INCREDIBLE guitarist – that … is probably the best I’ve ever heard. He then brought back both Foy and Sarah. Josh actually accompanied Foy on piano… (imagine the STAR of the show, accompanying someone else) and then they sang a duet.

A little later Sarah came back on and they sang together. A beautiful rendition of In the Arms of the Angels. WOW! Literally brought the house down!

The KC orchestra provided the perfect background music and excellent musicians. Josh has a great director that is traveling with the group. (sorry I didn’t catch his name) As well he had a Chamber singers group from KC area. The tech group, the engineers, the musicians, singers… were all excellent! KUDOS to all!
.
So what… you may ask. Here’s the thing, as he shared the limelight, he actually made himself look even greater. He was so genuine in his appreciation of the other talent and by letting them shine, he was even brighter. Big Lesson here.

In our personal life and our business we can also let others shine. Share the spotlight, share the applause, be open and receptive to what others bring to the table.

Give them have a chance to excel (shine) at something.

Tell others what a great job they are doing.

I think the biggest compliment is when someone says something nice about you to others. We like it when they tell us, but it is often even better when they tell others. Just as Josh did in front of thousands of people on stage, we can compliment and affirm others. I encourage you to look for opportunities.
.
As we lift others up, ‘share the spotlight’ so to speak, we do not take away from out ‘greatness’ or our importance, instead it will make you shine brighter.
