Drums, bells, organ, and singers were all making beautiful  music.

Sunday afternoon was all about ‘GRACE’.  A new church began.  Two strong congregations in Las Vegas, First Presbyterian Church and Summerlin Presbyterian Church, came together and chartered as Grace Presbyterian Church.  This reflected a few years of blending of congregations and sharing in ministry.

FPC came with a long heritage of faith and outreach in our community and Summerlin brought strong mission minded people flexible in worship and, well, lots of flexibility. SPC has been meeting in schools, and libraries, and a retail center.  In order to survive we had to be flexible. As we come together we will be able to reach out more, be a stronger witness, and touch more lives for the Kingdom.

The service on Sunday was a blending of both. Strong praise music from the Worship Team, a bagpipe drum team, which was fabulous!!! There were gospel singers, a bell choir, large choir, wonderful organ music, and singing with the congregation.  I was amazed.

As I sat there I thought about how this is the way it’s supposed to be.  There isn’t only one way of doing things.  There is good in it all. We were praising and worshipping all together.  It didn’t matter what building or place we were in or what style of worship or music.  The Word was proclaimed, we sang praises, and our hearts were touched.

It can’t get much better than that.  

You can’t do it every Sunday, but it sure was great for the chartering of our new congregation.  We are about Grace.  God’s grace to us, and showing His Grace to others.  We will all probably have to step out of our comfort zone a little . . . or maybe a lot, but God’s grace is sufficient for all of it.

OH – I am honored to be speaking to the women of Grace today at their first luncheon for the season. I am so excited.

Presto – It’s clean! That was my ’15 minute’ project today. Really . . . One extra ’15 minute’ project a day can keep your house organized.

Sunday at church several of my friends made comments about the ’15 minutes’ post the other day.  One of the ladies said her husband told her that he now knows that it only takes ’15 minutes’, so … well, he had his own suggestion for ‘her’ to do.  We had a good laugh.

Several of us talked about the fact that we have a lot of places need a lot more than 15 minutes. So, again, I suggested we break it down.

Here are some things we shared:

• Garage – (I don’t really consider the garage as part of the house to keep organized, but that is just me). You may need to take one section or one drawer, one cabinet, or even one shelf at a time. 

Ladies – encourage your husband to help, and let him know you are only asking him to do ’15’ a day on the ‘Honey Do’.  He may have a workbench, or shelves in the garage, or other places as well,  where he could begin working.

• We all had a little laugh about my closet, when I told them the ‘poncho thing’ I was wearing had been hiding in my closet.  They suggested maybe I needed to spend ’15’ minutes in my closet – and they are probably right.  Although, it is really my jewelry area that needs attention.

Today, however, I decided that the silver pieces in my kitchen needed some cleaning, so that became my project.  They were gifts from my family for Christmas last year.  I love them and use them everyday.  (Why hide them away when I can enjoy them, right?)  The problem is it has been 9 months and they needed cleaning.

I used a new product (for me) called Tarn-X.  It is a liquid silver cleaner, not the paste type I have always used before. I really mean it when I say, the tarnish came off so fast, I was shocked.  All I had to do was wipe it on and ‘presto’ it was clean.  WHOO HOO.  My 3 pieces were clean in less than 15 minutes.  Don’t you just love it?!

Imagine. . .

No more messy closets, messy drawers, no ‘junk’ drawer. This can be you with only 15 minutes a day.  Yes — only 15 minutes, and wouldn’t it be worth it?

Sound good?  You know there has to be a catch, right?  Well, there is no catch.  If you spend 15 minutes a day, this really works.

 

A number of years ago when my kids were young I heard this idea on a radio program.  I have no idea who it was, or what program, but I have used it over and over again.  Of course, I get side-tracked and forget to do it and when the ‘messy-ness’ starts coming back, I go back to my ’15 minutes’ plan. I started yesterday in my kitchen – my miscellaneous drawer… sometimes called the junk drawer.

Here’s what you do:

• Pick a drawer, closet, etc., each day and begin organizing it.  

• Spend 15 minutes

• If it is not finished- (let’s all admit there are some that take more than 15 minutes) go back to the same one again tomorrow, and the next day if needed.  (The nice thing is that it is OK to do part of it and go back rather than putting all the pressure on and ‘not’ doing it at all)

• When that one is finished, start a new one the following day

• Continue on.  Within a number of months every drawer, closet, and area of your house will be clean and organized.

Now, if you are like me, when I had kids at home, by the time I got through them all, it was time to go back to the first drawers. That’s OK, because the 15 minutes a day really isn’t hard and the feeling of order and accomplishment is well worth the time. So continue.

One more example of Small things Make a Big Difference.

***  PS – Let your kids help you.  They love pulling out all the stuff under the sink or the pots and pans, etc.  They pull it out, and you organize and put it back.  It becomes a pretty fun game for them.
