One person CAN
One person CAN make a difference. There are many examples and many stories, Princess Diana and Mother Teresa to just name a few. The question is, do you believe it? Then go one step further, do you believe You can make a difference?
There are those who are make a difference in the world as those mentioned above . . . and those of us who make a difference in ‘our’ world. I don’t know about you but that is what I want. To spend my days with a purpose, to share life with others, and in whatever way I can make a difference to someone, to be a blessing.
We get so many mixed messages. One day you hear that you are special and have gifts to share. Then another day someone says you don’t have what it takes, or that you are worthless, or stupid, ugly, etc.
Which are you going to believe?
I love the saying, God didn’t make any junk. It is true. He made beautiful human beings, His creation, His Chosen, His beloved. Yes, that is you. Don’t shy away from it.
When you listen to the One who created you, and believe in His love for you, then you can believe you are enough and that you can make a difference.
It doesn’t take much, a phone call, a card or letter. Maybe go down and feed the homeless through your church or other organization. Go have a cup of coffee with someone who needs a friend, help a child with homework, babysit for a single mom. All of these things are making a difference. Even if you don’t see it, it matters to that person.
If each of us makes a difference in ‘our’ world, it gets better, and then it spreads as more of us reach out.
This week on my FB page there were several great stories you may want to check out. (facebook.com/delinda.layne)
You have a story, and I’d love to hear about you. Or many tell us how someone made a difference in your life.
Have a Blessed week

Don’t Worry – Be Happy
Don’t worry – Be happy! Remember that song, it’s kinda funky and fun. It’s makes you feel good just to listen to it, that beat and the whistles. Interestingly it is an a cappella song, no instruments. I guess I never really paid attention to that, just listened to it and enjoyed. (from Wikipedia The “instruments” in the a cappella song is entirely overdubbed voice parts and other sounds made by McFerrin, using no instruments at all.) Pretty cool, huh?
Fun, yes, but pretty profound too –
In every life we have some trouble
When you worry you make it double
Don’t worry, be happy
Or as the Bible says…
-
Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? (Matthew 6:27 Biblegateway)
This is a concept that many find really hard to live out. I think that sometimes we feel that if we ‘worry’ we are showing that we care, or we think ‘we’ can control it if we are ‘worrying’ about it. Both of these are an illusion.
Worry is negative energy that feeds on itself. The more we worry, the more worried and upset, and anxious we are. It can get so overwhelming that it’s easy to become paralyzed, and that is a totally non-productive and unpleasant place to be. So why do we do it? Good question.
Let’s look again –
-
[ Do Not Worry ] “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? … (Matthew 6:25-34)
-
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. (Philippians 4:6)
It’s simple but not easy.
-
Take your eyes OFF the problem, turn to God who is in control
-
Pray
-
Speak positive things into your spirit, speak the Word
-
Look carefully and see what you can do to change the problem or situation, if there is nothing you can do about it then release it
-
Release the worry and anxiety
-
Put it on the back shelf of your brain, not front and center (It isn’t going to magically disappear, but it gets smaller when you ‘move’ it)
-
Think on the good things – be grateful
Or simply …
Don’t worry – Be happy
( and pray)

2 Boxes – What’s In Yours?
Nice thoughts for the day – Have a great weekend!
Author Unknown
I have in my hands two boxes
Which God gave me to hold.
He said, “Put all your sorrows in the black box
And all your joys in the gold.”
I heeded His words, and in the two boxes
Both my joys and sorrows I stored.
But though the gold became heavier everyday
The black was as light as before.
With curiosity I opened the black
I wanted to find out why.
And i saw, in the base of the box, a hole
Which my sorrows had fallen out.
I showed the hole to God, and mused
‘I wonder where my sorrows could be.”
He smiled a gentle smile and said
“My child, they’re all here with me.”
I asked God why He gave me the boxes
Why the gold, and the black with the hole?
“My child, the gold is for you to count your blessings,
The black is for you to let go.”

YUMMM . . . I love Sugar!
YUMMM … lots of SUGAR! Different forms and colors, but still sugar, and I love it.
***
Today I’m going to get a little personal. I am a carb addict, in particular I love sweets. My coffee or tea, or any drink has to be sweet. Cookies, candy (particularly Reese’s) German chocolate cake, brownies (they actually are #1 on my Favs list, and make it a brownie hot fudge sundae and I am Really in business =). Oh, and I love dark chocolate – that’s OK… right???
As I was thinking about all this and making better choices, I said to myself, “I’m going to try and get off sugar”… again. Then came the ‘AH HA’ moment. Either I am going to get off sugar or I’m not, there really is no ‘try’. ‘Try’ is really an excuse to not own up to it. Make sense? (Sometimes honesty is the pits.)
So I am not going to ‘Try’. I am going to ‘Do’. For me it is literally one day at a time. Yesterday was good. No sugar. YIPPEE! Realizing that sugar is in soooo many things, I am starting with no white sugar. I’ll fine tune as time goes on, but for today, no white sugar. Then tomorrow I’ll choose ‘No sugar’ again, and in a week, I’ll have 7 days behind me, doing it one day at a time.
I am not a diabetic, but certainly could become one. In my head I know what foods are good for me, I know mentally what to eat, what foods work better in my body. My head knowledge is good… HOWEVER… what I ‘know’ and what I ‘Do’ are often two different things. Can you relate?
A Few facts:
-
*Simple sugars have been observed to aggravate asthma, move mood swings, provoke personality changes, muster mental illness, nourish nervous disorders, deliver diabetes, hurry heart disease, grow gallstones, hasten hypertension, and add arthritis.
-
*Major health organizations (including the American Dietetic Association and American Diabetic Association) agree that sugar consumption in America is one of the 3 major causes of degenerative disease.
-
*Have you heard the saying “Sugar feeds cancer” ? Many health professionals believe it is true. It’s a simple thought but the explanation is a little more involved. (You might want to google it, it is very interesting.) AND if there is even a chance that it is true, why would I continue to choose to eat it…DUH!
So today – I choose No Sugar.
‘Til next time – Blessings
Delinda
QUESTION: So what do you think about the whole ‘sugar’ thing? I know you nurses out there have some valuable advise or thoughts =)
